About Jason Budd

Bass-baritone Jason Budd unites vocal command with the expressive range of an accomplished singer-actor. Drawing on a wealth of stage experience, he reveals the humanity in his characters through performances across the United States, Europe, and South America.

Budd earned particular acclaim for his South American debut in the title role of Verdi’s Falstaff in São Paulo, Brazil. Equally assured as a singer and actor, he brings versatility to both comic and dramatic repertoire. His specialized repertoire includes Dulcamara in L’elisir d’amore, Don Magnifico and Alidoro in La Cenerentola, the title role in Don Pasquale, and Bartolo in both Il barbiere di Siviglia and Le nozze di Figaro. Other roles include Benoît and Alcindoro in La bohème, Monterone in Rigoletto, and Baron Zeta in The Merry Widow. Budd’s engagements include a return to Toledo Opera as the charismatic traveling salesman Dr. Dulcamara in The Elixir of Love, along with appearances with Spoleto Festival USA, Boston Midsummer Opera, Fremont Opera, Opera Project Columbus, and Cleveland Opera Theater. With Pittsburgh Opera, he will portray Monterone in Verdi’s Rigoletto and Count Capulet in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette. A native of Hubbard, Ohio, Budd received his vocal training at Youngstown State University and Bowling Green State University. His honors include first-place awards in the Opera Columbus Vocal Competition, the Heinz Rehfuss Singing Actor Awards, the Mary Jacobs Smith Singer of the Year Competition, and the Meistersinger Competition in Graz, Austria.
